Drinking Games
Thumper
Number of players: 3+
Setup: Players must be seated around a table in a manner which
allows them to place their hands at the edge of the table. Each person must
choose a hand gesture that he would like to use during the game. Be creative.
There are a few restrictions on the types of gestures that can be made. All
players must be able to see the gesture when it is performed and all gestures
must be unique (two players can not use the same gesture). Once the gestures
are selected, they need to be performed a few times so everyone else at the
table is aware of the other players' gestures.
Play: The person who leads a new round is the one who had erred in the
previous round (or a volunteer, for the first round only). During the entire
round everyone must be thumping the table with their hands, in a fashion similar
to a drum roll. At the start of the round, the following dialogue must take
place (once everyone has started thumping):
Leader: "What's the name of the game?"
Everyone else: "Thumper!"
Leader: "How do you play it?"
Everyone else: "Thump like this!"
Leader: "Why do we play it?"
Everyone else: "To drink a lot!"
All players must continue thumping. The initiator of the round passes the
lead to someone else by lifting her hands off the table and performing her
gesture once and then performing someone else's gesture once. The gestures
must be performed in unison with everyone else's thumping. The person whose
gesture was just performed now has the lead. The new leader then has only
a few seconds before the lead has to be passed on to someone else in a similar
manner.
Ending a Round: The round ends when a player makes a mistake. A mistake
can occur at any time in the round and includes the following:
Mispronouncing the initial dialogue or not saying it at the right time
Performing a gesture improperly
Performing a gesture that does not belong to anyone
Not performing your own gesture before performing another player's gesture
Tapping out of rhythm or ceasing to tap for a reason other than gesturing
Gesturing when the lead belongs to someone else
Drinking: The one who makes the mistake and ends the round has to take
a drink and must initiate the next round.
